Survival for Poets

(W)RITE

  1. Find a secret or sacred spot.
  2. Spend time in the location, noticing any kinds of communication that are present—even if you don’t understand them. Here are a few questions to support your attunement:
    • If other-than-human or entangled beings or more-than-human entities may also write, what might their writing practices entail?
    • What qualifies as a writing instrument or surface?
    • What do they use to write?
  3. Place a text in your secret or sacred spot and leave it to interdepend with the ecosystem for a day, a week, a month, or a season. Witness its transformation by environmental input. Consider documenting the transformation with photography, video, or transcription of the altered text throughout the process.
