NoMuLAB = Nordic Multimedia Writing LAB

The Multilingual Writing LAB project, developed within the Erasmus+ framework, runs from February 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. It empowers diverse older youth and adults, supports educators in multicultural settings, and promotes multilingual writing using digital tools. In partnership with Ós Pressan (Iceland) and Red Door (Denmark), the project connects two networks to foster social inclusion through multilingual, multicultural, and multimedia literature.

ASSESSMENT

To build a strong foundation for the Multilingual Writing LAB, we conducted a comprehensive needs assessment in Iceland and Denmark. Through surveys, desk research, and interviews with multilingual writers, educators, and experts, we explored current practices, challenges, and support strategies in multilingual and multicultural writing education. The findings were compiled into national reports and a final transnational report—available in Danish, English, and Icelandic—guiding our next steps and helping us build a vibrant network of stakeholders across Europe.

COURSES

NOMULab offers a diverse selection of online courses designed to support multilingual and multicultural writing practices. Each course combines video lectures, readings, interactive activities, and assessments to explore key themes such as multilingual writing techniques, cultural identity and representation, linguistic hierarchies, and inclusive storytelling.

Courses are tailored for multilingual individuals, educators, researchers, and cultural workers, and align with Nordic academic standards and the European Qualifications Framework to ensure professional and academic relevance. Ewa Marcinek

Project Leader of NoMuLAB
Founding member of Ós Pressan, author.

Ewa Marcinek is a Polish-Icelandic author and one of the founding members of Ós Pressan, a publishing house and multilingual writing collective. She is the author of the short story collection Polishing Iceland and co-editor of the essay anthology Writers Adrift by multilingual authors living in Iceland. Ewa is also the founder of the Reykjavík Poetics multilingual literary events and the StorySharing project, which explores how storytelling can empower vulnerable communities. She works as a writer, editor, educator, and social entrepreneur.

Anna Valdis Kro

Project Manager of NoMuLAB, IS
Founding member of Ós Pressan, Poet, Editor, Publisher.

Anna Valdís Kro is one of the founding members of Ós Pressan and an active member since 2015. A queer writer, poet, editor, publisher and project manager. Has a M.A in Pedagogy and education, B.A. in Sign language studies and B.Ed. in Kindergarten teaching.

Founder of the Poetic Phonotheque

Colombian-American poet, literary translator, and multidisciplinary artist based in Copenhagen. Recipient of the 2022 Ambroggio Prize from the Academy of American Poets, she has published over 20 poetry books in multiple languages. Director of Red Door Magazine & Gallery, host of the Red Transmissions Podcast, and founder of the Poetic Phonotheque, a multimedia poetry archive. She also serves as a Listener Poet with The Good Listening Project, crafting poems in response to healthcare workers’ stories.

Lalo Barrubia

Writer, Performer, Multimedia Artist

Lalo Barrubia is a Uruguayan writer, poet, and performer known for her dynamic literary voice and bold performance art. Born in Montevideo, she has published numerous books of poetry, fiction, and hybrid genres, often exploring themes of marginality, identity, and the urban experience. Based in Sweden for many years, Barrubia has been active in international literary and artistic circuits, performing across Latin America and Europe. Her work is recognized for its raw energy, streetwise language, and commitment to pushing the boundaries between literature and live performance.

Elsa G. Björnsdóttir

Academic, Poet, Educator, Interpreter, Filmmaker, Actress.

Elsa G. Björnsdóttir is an academic, poet, teacher, interpreter, filmmaker and actress.  In 2021-2023 she collaborated with Ós Pressan on a project, organized by Anna Valdís Kro, where she taught four workshops offered to Deaf individuals learning to create their own Visual Vernacular, which is one small piece of Deaf literature. Pablo Saborio

Poet, Visual Artist, Red Door Magazine Poetry Editor.

Pablo Saborío (he/him) is a Costa Rican-Danish visual artist and poet based in Copenhagen. In 2024, he published his debut novel, The Underachiever (Spuyten Duyvil), and his first Spanish poetry collection, El Individuo y su ceniza (Valparaíso Ediciones). His poetry has appeared in Columbia Journal, Conduit, Rigorous, West Trade Review, DASH, and other literary journals. Since 2015, he has held five solo exhibitions in Denmark. Nina Sokol

Poet, Translator

Nina Sokol is a poet and translator in the midst of translating plays, poems and novels by Danish writers. She was a grant poet-in-residence at The Vermont Studio Center in 2011. She has received several grants from the Danish Art’s Council to translate plays, including a play written by the fairy tale writer H.C. Andersen which was published by the journal “InTranslation.” She has also translated numerous novels by such writers as Robert Zola Christensen, Kristian Himmelstrup, whose novel, Pio, was nominated for DR Roman Prisen (prestigious literary prize in Denmark), Thomas Lagermand Lundme, and Anna Grue (Danish crime novelist). Translations of poetry include Mikael Josephens’ trilogy (excerpts of which also appeared in the journal “InTranslation”). Her own poems have appeared in American journals, including Miller’s Pond, the Hiram Poetry Review and the (Australian) Verandah Journal  and a collection was published (Escape and Other Poems) by Lapwing Publications in Belfast, Ireland (2015).  The Silence Sound Makes (published by Spuyten Duyvil in NY, 2023)  was Nina Sokol’s second poetry collection.

Helen Cova

Poet, Cultural Organizer

Helen Hafgnýr Cova, born in Venezuela, is an Icelandic writer, founder of Editorial Karíba, and member of Ós Pressan. Her works include the children’s series SnulliSnulli Likes Being Alone (2019) and Snulli Learns to Say No (2022)—as well as the adult short story collection Autosarcophagy – To Eat Oneself (2020) and her first poetry collection, Ljóð fyrir klofið hjarta (2023). Her children’s book Svona tala ég (This Is How I Speak) (2023) was nominated for the Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature Children’s Book Award.

Cova’s writing has appeared in Icelandic and international journals and anthologies, including Ós – The Journal, Tímarit Máls og Menningar, Skáldreki, Ordskælv, and The Polaris Trilogy, slated to travel to the moon on a NASA mission. She has participated in festivals such as Vancouver Writers Fest, Opin Bók, and Sant Jordi USA.

Based in the Westfjords, Cova runs Karíba and founded the Flateyri Literary Festival in 2025.

Patrick Horner

Poet, Engineer, Cultural Organizer

Patrick Horner is a Canadian poet and engineer based in Copenhagen, Denmark and Calgary, Canada. He is the author of the poetic novel Refugia (University of Calgary Press, 2022), a hallucinatory exploration of scientific discovery and the environment. His poetry and fiction have appeared in international journals including Wax, Dandelion, and Broken Pencil. Horner co-wrote and co-produced the serial radio play Waste Dump, and has facilitated writing workshops in diverse settings, from prisons to psychiatric hospitals, currently leading a weekly workshop at Copenhagen’s Literaturhaus.

He is the co-director of the Nature & Culture: International Poetry Film Festival and serves as Poet Ambassador to the Poetic Phonotheque, an international archive of multimedia poetry.

Elżbieta Wójcik-Leese

Poet, Educator, Scholar

Elżbieta Wójcik-Leese is a multilingual writer, accredited coach and book artist. Her site-specific verbal and visual texts use such analogue processes as botanical inkmaking, cyanotype, pinhole photography and expressive handwriting. She co-curates and runs ‘Transreading’ courses on translocal and hybrid poetries for the Poetry School in London. Her most recent English translation, of Małgorzata Lebda’s Queen Cells, appeared in August from Broken Sleep Books. As a Fulbright scholar, she worked at the Elizabeth Bishop archives. Currently based in Denmark, she teaches creative and research writing at the University of Copenhagen and is a ‘creative ambassador’ for the Møn UNESCO Biosphere. IG: @elzbietawojcikleese

Daniel Malpica

Visual Identity of NoMuLAB, Multimedia Artist, Poet

Daniel Malpica is a Finnish-Mexican writer, graphic designer, publisher, and multimedia artist based in Helsinki. His work explores cross-narratives, transmediality, and the intersections of design and literary arts. As an artist and curator, Malpica has developed multiple transdisciplinary and multimedia projects across Europe, the Nordics, and Mexico. He was editor and designer of Radiador Magazine and served on the board of directors of PEN Finland from 2019 to 2022. His recent projects have received support from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (TAIKE) and the Kone Foundation. Malpica was the artistic director of the Copenhagen Literature Festival in 2022 and has been a resident artist at HIAP (Helsinki International Artists Programme). He has lectured on the materiality of writing at the University of the Arts Helsinki.

Christopher Marcatili

Writer, Anthropologist, Editor.

Author of queer, weird and fantasy fiction. He has been published in print and online in the US, Europe and Australia, where he is from. He has a master’s in creative writing and is currently completing a PhD in anthropology, focused on creative writing practices and social change. Christopher is also a freelance copy editor, has worked for the Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry, and is an operations consultant for not-for-profits. 

Lara Wilhelmine Hoffmann

Sociologist, Researcher,Writer.

Lara Wilhelmine Hoffmann has been an active member of Ós Pressan since 2016. She is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Iceland, with a PhD in Sociology from the University of Akureyri in Iceland and an MA in Art Studies from the University of Amsterdam.

Her research interests revolve around human migrations, particularly linguistic and creative aspects. Languages: German, English, Icelandic, and Dutch.

Anders Hansen

Sound Engineer

Anders Onsberg Hansen is a Danish sound engineer and producer with extensive expertise in both live and studio audio production. He has collaborated with a broad spectrum of artists, contributing to album recordings, live performances, and experimental sound projects. His practice is centered on meticulous attention to sonic detail and a comprehensive understanding of acoustic environments, ensuring high-quality auditory experiences across diverse settings.

He is affiliated with various recording studios in Denmark, where he plays a role in engineering and producing a range of musical and multimedia projects.

Francesca Cricelli

Poet, Translator, Researcher

Francesca Cricelli is an active member of Ós Pressan. A poet, literary translator, and researcher. She is currently a fellow at the Institute of Languages Cultures and Societies of the University of London, where she is carrying out research on translingual women writers in Iceland. Languages: Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, English, Icelandic.

We’re currently seeking collaborations with educational centers interested in adding these offerings to their curriculum.

What is the learning format?

NoMuLAB uses a blended learning approach, combining self-paced and guided instruction, with a DIS format which allows for learning at your own pace, wherever you are. ​ The format includes video lectures, downloadable reading materials, quizzes, interactive discussions, and peer-reviewed assignments.

Who develops and supports the courses?

The courses are developed and supported by Ós Pressan, an Icelandic non-profit publishing house, and Red Door, a cultural organization based in Denmark. ​ Both organizations are dedicated to promoting multilingual and multicultural literary expression. This project is developed thanks to the support of Erasmus+.
