Hello!
My name is Ewa Marcinek. I am a writer born in Poland, based in Iceland, and I write primarily in English. My background is in cultural studies, creative writing, and visual art. In this lesson, I will share some stories and a few of the poetic tools I find most exciting.
Living in many languages has been a true gift to my life, and to my writing.

Polishing Iceland (Ísland pólerað), published in 2022, was my debut book. It’s a bittersweet collection of stories, poems, and anecdotes about immigrant life in Iceland.

Writer’s Adrift (Skáldreki), published in 2023, is an essay collection by foreign-born writers living in Iceland, which I co-edited with Natasha S. In this book, ten authors discuss the subjects of belonging, creativity, and personal experience.

Since 2015, I’ve been a founding author and board member of Ós Pressan, a multilingual writing collective and a non-profit publishing house supporting diverse authors.

Lately I’ve been interested in creating spaces for multilingual writing and literary exchange. In 2023 I started Reykjavík Poetics, a multilingual literary event series, and in 2026, I launched Ritrými í Reykjavík, community-driven multilingual writing sessions.
